CORAL DUERO

Region: Castilla y León
Appellation: D.O. Toro
City: El Pego
Winery Website: www.rompesedas.com
Winery GPS Coordinates: 41.327, -5.4648

OVERVIEW

Quality at Coral Duero is equated with balance and complexity, factors hard to achieve with the powerful, alcoholic Tinta de Toro variety. Fifty acres of old vines spread among five parcels were acquired in the vicinity of El Pego, at the extreme southernmost and highest point of the D.O. Light sandy soils further encourage acidity and tenderness. One hundred percent new oak is used for each vintage, being a very careful mix of oak types, light to medium toast.

PRESS

Rompesedas (2006) - "Wild and rustic, this Toro's intense ripe red fruit and spice are superseded only by its tannin. One panelist imagined this as the center of a medieval banquet, a goblet of red in one hand, a whole roasted leg of lamb in the other."

Rompesedas (2006) - "This plush red brims with sweet, ripe flavors of raspberry jam, vanilla and piecrust. Medium-bodied, featuring soft tannins, bright acidity and spicy vanilla and floral notes on the finish. Drink now through 2014. Tasted twice, with consistent notes."

Rompesedas (2006) - "(100% new oak, a mix of French, American and Hungarian) Opaque ruby. Seductive perfume of cherry, blackcurrant, flowers, iron and vanillin oak. Rich, dense and sweet, with palate-coating dark berry and floral flavors. This very showy wine finishes with powerful thrust and lingering sweetness. Sexy and delicious now. "

Rompesedas (2006) - "The 2006 Rompesedas was aged in new oak for 18 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it proffers a superb aromatic array of slate, mineral, tar, espresso, violets, incense, and blackberry. Surprisingly elegant despite its obvious power, this savory effort should gracefully evolve for another 5-7 years and easily achieve its 20th birthday in full form."

Rompesedas Finca Las Parvas (2006) - "The 2006 Rompesedas Finca Las Parvas is sourced from a 5.5 acre ungrafted parcel of over 100 year old vines and was aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak. Dense purple in color, it sports a sexy perfume of Asian spices, incense, lavender, espresso, mineral, and assorted black fruits. Dense and opulent on the palate, it somehow manages to retain a sense of elegance despite its size. Give it 6-8 years to become a bit more civilized and drink it through 2036."
