FINCA REBOREDA

Region: Galicia
Appellation: D.O. Ribeiro
City: Puga, Finca Reboreda, Orense
Winery Website: http://bodegasgrm.com/bodega-reboreda
Winery GPS Coordinates: 42.323513, -8.014477

OVERVIEW

The Viña Reboreda vineyard estate comprises 40 hectares on the Miño River west of the provincial capital and ancient Roman mining center of Orense. Soils vary from alluvial and stony near the river to outcroppings of slate, granite and chalk on the higher west-facing slopes. Varieties planted include a majority Treixadura, plus Torrontés, Loureiro, Godello and Mencía.

Treixadura provides savory consistency while Torrontés adds floral and spice notes.

Refreshing and fragrant in style, Viña Reboreda remains relatively soft in acidity compared with other Galician wines, allowing for a more completely dry finish. It offers an uncomparable value in top-quality Spanish white wine.

Viña Reboreda (2003) - "Here's your other 'house white' for summer drinking, a jewel of delicacy and original flavor. This is yet another gush of goodness from Spain, which is fast emerging as the source of some of the world's most interesting and quaffable - in the best sense - white wines. The reason is Spain's unique white grape varieties. Viña Reboreda hails from the Ribeiro district in the northwestern corner of Spain. The fact that Viña Reboreda is likely not quite like anything else you've tasted is explained by its composition. Seventy percent of the blend is composed of local white grapes such as treixadura, torrontes, loureira, and godello. The balance is the barely better-known grape variety called palomino. What results is a delicate, fragrant, dry white wine with a scent of almonds, ripe apple, and hay. Noteworthy is an attractive textural delicacy. And there's no oak, either. Never mind those banal 'international-styled,' one-size-fits-all white wines. This is an original - a lovely watercolor of a wine, if you will. It's clearly meant to be drunk young and cool, preferably with fish, shellfish, or cheeses. The price is superb."
